Seaside Entertainments between the war years:

Resorting to the coast celebrates the many entertainers who performed over the last century up and down the Tendring coastal resorts.  Our first tribute is to the much-loved children’s entertainer, Clown Bertram, who performed in Clacton-on-Sea for eighteen summer seasons.

Albert Edward Harvey was given a week’s trial when he asked Clacton Pier owner, Ernest Kingsman for a job in 1922.  Albert created Clown Bertram and became the pier’s number one entertainment attraction until the Second World War disrupted everything in 1939.

The Grand Theatre of Lemmings researched Clown Bertram and his story can be viewed on request as it’s too large a file to upload on this website! Please write to: admin@tendringcoastalheritage.org.uk
